Christmas Dinner For Two
Let's get real for a second here. I know that there are people out there that have to work on Christmas Eve, and this means spending no time with their family or even have a proper Christmas Dinner, not to mention opening presents. I am talking here about people whose jobs put them on call all night on Christmas Eve. I am talking about doctors or nurses, policemen, firemen or even people who work in banks and cannot possibly travel miles away to spend time with their family for Christmas. Yes, that is possible, I even know a few close friends that are in this spot. This post is designed exactly for those of you that are in this position and you have to work on the 24th of December, in order to make our lives easier, which I thank you for by the way!
But, this does not mean you cannot have your Christmas Dinner on the Eve of this Holiday. You can put together some festive decorations and get a bit of that Christmas cheer right in the middle of your flat, more precisely on your dining table.
You only need a couple of things, and most of them have to be items that you love to surround yourself with. Remember, this is tailored to your personal taste so you can create anything with everything. That is exactly what I did. So, here is what you can use:
1. TABLE LINEN
For the purpose of this post, I actually used a throw from West Elm (in the absence of a table linen). But you can use what you have already or buy a new one (that you've had your eyes on forever) or even choose not to have a table linen. It's your piece of art after all.
2. TABLE RUNNER
This item will help centre your decorations and also add a sense of length to your table. The best result would be to either have a simple, one colour runner (if your table linen has patterns on it) or go the other way around - have the table linen as one simple colour and have a runner with a quirky pattern on it.
From my personal experience (and taste), I find that a simple table runner helps to bring your decorations to life. And the reason for that is because it's not as busy, from a visual point of view, and your eyes can read the whole look without having to "think" twice about what they are seeing.
I think this is an obvious one, I mean who doesn't have candles in this day and age for occasions such as these? You can choose scented candles to help you create an atmosphere around anything you want. There are so many options these days, I mean: Cinnamon scented candle, Wood or Leather mixed with Pomegranate or even with Prosecco. So yeah, loads of options here!
However, if by any chance you are allergic to a certain smell or you just dislike scented candles all together, you can have another option - LED Candles from Ikea. Running on batteries, they simulate even that flickering of light that you usually get from a candle. So it's a perfect choice.
Now it's the time to go crazy!!! You can add jingle bells, Christmas decorations, small flowers, dried fruits, polyester spheres, literally anything that crosses your mind so you get that Holiday Cheer. You can even have a centre piece made out of flowers, but think if you have the space for that first. Usually, a piece like that can have a pretty big radius as the leaves fall down towards the table, so keep that in mind.
So there you have it peeps! A very simple and casual way to bring that Christmas Cheer to the Dinner Table. And remember, just because you might work this year on Christmas Eve and cannot be with your family, it doesn't mean you cannot enjoy a small, stylish Festive Dinner with your partner. It literally takes like 5 minutes to do this.
Now it's the time to go on the hunt for any last minute things you might need to make this happen if don't have some of these items already. Have fun my brilliant peeps, I know you'll create stunning Dinner Decorations.
