How about a little colour in your life?
Last week I had the opportunity to go the launch of a small pop up store and meet wonderful people! There I got the chance to meet the lovely Natasha Broady, the founder of the 'A Splash Of Colour.com' brand. I was lucky enough to get a tour of her wonderful shop, and learn the concept behind the products, which is sort of what I thrive on! I love it when a product has a reason / story behind it. It doesn't just exist, it has a reason, a thought, a purpose.
So what is the purpose of the brand? Colour into the industry, and at an accessible price too! I'm not talking just bits & bobs ( colour in small percentages ), but full on colourful pieces of furniture. And why not, if you think about it? We are not monochromatic beings, we see and understand our environment through colours. So why not extend this to our space as well?
Ok, then what did I see there? Well....lots of colour, as promised. The shop curates beautiful products from different artists and product designers. I have seen my fair share of design products, and I am sure I will see many more ( it's why I got into this field, after all ), but what I liked here, was the courage to display colourful products from top to bottom. To keep this long story short, I decided that this needs to be shared with the world, a.k.a with you guys! You get first dibs on this! And as you are used to by now, I've put together a list of my favourite things ( or what I would love to have ).
1. The Schneid Eikon Bubble Pendant Light
The reason why this pendant took my fancy is simple - its versatility. The wooden part of the lamp has small magnets embedded in it, so you can change the lamp shade when you get tired of one colour ( or you are throwing a party & want to add a pop of colour in the room ). The wonderful part is, there are more colour options available online.
2. The Vitamin Living Knot Pendant Lights collection
A nice & funky collection of pendant lights that have hand blown see through shades with different coloured cable cords. I like the variety of shapes and colour options ( for the cords ), and the fact that you can choose to display one or a bunch of them in a cluster of lights. My favourites are the Vitamin Living Knot Large Green & Small Yellow.
3. The Nine cushions
What easier way to add colour to your environment than by adding these cushions? Handmade by Sophie Doore ( designer of Cover & Couch ), the lovely 'Nine' cushions are made out of 9 different segments, using a special selection of Kvadrat fabrics. Each cover follows a pattern and colour palette, so you can easily change the mood of the room any time you feel like it.
4. The Vitamin Living Eclipse Mirror
This mirror made it's way into my heart mainly because of its quirkiness. I find the link between the cut ( that has the purpose of revealing the aluminium metal frame ) and the product name, very well thought. I love it when a designer puts a little extra effort into his/her product. This mirror really resembles a stage of a Moon or Sun eclipse, and once you realise that, you connect with the product even more. Plus, by rotating this mirror at any angle, you can create more impact in your space.
5. Saved the best for last - The Vitamin Living Eclipse side table
This brilliant little side table can be transformed by rotating the top 180 degrees, revealing a small space that resembles a tray. Like the Eclipse mirror, you can find the same well thought process here - the original position reminds of another stage of an eclipse ( at least, that is how I am reading it ).
What I really love about this product is its functional possibilities. Just imagine:
- You can use it as a side coffee table in the living area ( or even go a bit further and lean it against the side of the sofa );
- You can also rotate its top and have it as a free standing side table, wherever you need it really;
- Or, you can use it as a nightstand table in the bedroom, opened at full 360 degrees, or closed & straight up against the wall.
So there you have it guys, my top picks from 'A Splash of Colour.com'. I nearly touched the surface here, as they have some pretty and interesting stuff on their online shop too. Which one is your favourite? Or have you seen something way cooler on their website?
'Til next time!
