5 Must Have Christmas Decorations

5 Must Have Christmas Decorations

Yes, that magical season is HERE!!! Even if it's still November (well almost the end of November), seems like everywhere around me people have already gotten busy planning, shopping, and most importantly - DECORATING for Christmas! Oh how I love this season. And I don't really care for people that think it's too soon. If it brings joy to your heart,  you should embrace it with arms wide open (and even months in advance). That's what I am doing. Then again I am known for keeping Christmas trees for a really long period of time (but that's a story for another time).

Because I am full of Christmas cheer already and because I don't want you to be caught unprepared, I've put together a little list of all the "essential season decorations" that each home should have, so you can get that cosy holiday feeling. To be noted: they should be enjoyed with some proper eggnog and carols for a full on effect.

So let's get started!

I know, I know, it's obvious. But hear me out for a bit. Even though I had natural trees my whole childhood (and there's nothing quite like the natural scent of a Xmas), I am now a fan of Artificial ones. Why? Well if you buy one, you can reuse it time and time again. Not only this will save you money each year, but there will be no need for trees to be cut down every winter so that you can buy one. So not only it's more environmentally friendly (although the process of making one remains to be seen), but you can have it up before the 24th of December and it can be kept well until April (believe me, I've tried it).

So have a think about it and know that there is a very wide range out there: green, white, colourful, minimal...you name it. Personally, I like one with a little bit of both worlds, as in green with a little bit of snow on it. Take this lovely tree from John Lewis for example.

If you do want to have some natural pine scent around the house, then this is the best decoration to get. There are beautiful natural wreaths crafted with love by artisans, so you can't ever go wrong if you buy one. As for me, I like from to switch it up a bit (from time to time), so this year I am lookin for something different. I have my heart pretty much set on something like what Anthropologie does.

Not necessary only for the holidays, but a must have for any season really. Perfect for creating a nice and relaxed atmosphere, a romantic dinner with your significant other, or even if there is a blackout. So go and get some candles if you don't have any around the house. They are really useful!

Now, the tricky part is what should you buy? Tall, thin ones that go lovely in candle holders, or should they be small and scented, perhaps in glass jars? Uhh, though one. You should get something that you're comfortable with, something that makes you smile when you see it (and smell it). The same process goes for candle holders, minus the smelling.

If you are new to scented candles, I recommend these beauties from Anthropologie. They are really inexpensive and are a joy for the senses.

Perhaps one of the most used item during the Winter Holidays and also, the most neglected. Where do you snuggle up to after a great Christmas dinner, with your cup of hot chocolate or eggnog and chat with your loved ones? On the sofa of course! And what do you cover yourself up with (if it's cold outside)? I think you get my drift.

Seriously undervalued, but very much used for occasions such as these - having a proper throw will only add to that "most wonderful time of the year" experience. So think about what would you fancy this Christmas. I for one, am thinking of getting one of these two from West Elm: the Diamond Dot and the Dash Stitch. But I cannot decide which one. Help me!!!

I know you'll say "Come on, that's pretty obvious"! And I agree with you. But I am not really thinking about those traditional Christmas lights that you hang around your gorgeous tree or around the home. What I am saying is that there are other ways to use little lights around your space. And here is where you can get most creative. Just imagine: there could be branches, or lighted wreath, or even snow globes! Your interior is your canvas. So have fun with it and go crazy!!!

So yes detail lovers, the best time of the year is coming. What better excuse than Christmas to get all those cheesy things you've always wanted?  I better get starting too, because I must admit, it's getting harder and harder to resist the urge to get my Christmas decorations out.

Have you already started preparing? Is your Holiday Tree all out and about, showing off in your Living Room? Or are you in the planning stages? Let me know below or on Facebook. I would love to know what are you up to. And remember, there is no judgement or shame if you already have your Tree decorated - it only means that I am falling behind. Better get on with it, then!
