Best of Decorex 2017
Every year, designers, architects, and all creative folks get a packed week full of intense design events across London. This beautiful phenomenon is called "London Design Week" and it happens every 3rd week of September. Jam-packed with creative events happening all across the city via exhibitions, workshops, and installations hosted in museums, shops, parks and even in an old brewery factory.
Each year I make a note of trying to catch as many design events as I can (because let's be honest, who can make all of them?) and get "infusions" of design and creativity!
Although I am still processing what I saw so far and I've still got some exhibitions left to go to, I'm sharing with you my highlights of Decorex, who, by the way, celebrated its 40th anniversary this year. As always, it's a really long blog post, so grab a cup of coffee (or tea), get comfortable and start the visual journey!

A Rum Fellow showcased a very interesting new collection of pillows and rugs this year. The story behind it is even more so. Their patterns are inspired by a native tribe that lives in the Amazon Forest, who use a special substance (forgot how it's called) that causes them to have visions/hallucinations. After these "sessions", they embroider what they saw into patterns on cushions. Talk about exciting creativity!
Although I've seen Petite Friture before and I really enjoy their products, what took my fancy this year was their Panache Wall Mirror and Méditerranéa Light.
A home fragrance brand that creates beautifully marbled candle holders. The feeling I got was one of high-end, luxury home accessories, but nonetheless, really beautiful products. As you may or may not know, I am a fan of marble and to see these beauties only made the passion grow stronger. I really believe that marble is an evergreen trend. What do you think?

An interesting addition to this show was Ziad Alonaizy, a talented designer who showcased this year his very first high-end product, the Aegis 001. A beautiful story behind this product ads to its charm. Composed out of 3 separate pieces, these are designed to work together and to create the feeling of a bird cage with all the safety/freedom it can provide through the spaces between the wires.
Another detail that I noticed and really enjoyed was the way the light changes the colour of the metal wires as you move around the tables.
Beautiful, elegant and sophisticated is how I would describe CTO Lighting's stand at Decorex. Not to mention all kinds of gorgeous lights: wall lights, floor lights, table lights, pendant lights. It was love at first sight!
Interesting discovery, again very high-end, but nonetheless fascinating products. Atelier Alain Ellouz designs and creates amazing furniture and lights out of LED lit stones. Need to double read that? Cannot blame you, I had to look twice to fully understand these beauties!
By far the best products I've seen this year at Decorex, and I am sad to say that the pictures I've taken don't really do the brand any justice. The products are so beautifully designed and crafted that the only way you could truly appreciate the products would be to see them live.
You can sense the love, sweat and long hours that have been put into each and every single piece. Not to mention the little details. Oh my God, the details! Iron seamless joints, beautiful brass nails....you truly had to see them in person to understand what I am talking about.
This stunning ceramic and brass Art installation by David Marques doesn't need any words to be described. It just needs to be taken in as it is - a beauty to be witness.
Last, but not least (and slowly becoming a favourite stop of mine at every show) the amazing Bert Frank stand. These guys take their stand designs to a whole different level each time I see them - at any show - remember the green oasis at Clarkenwell Design Week? Well, this year it was a Hotel Reception. Yes, you read that correctly!
So there you have it detail lovers - my highlights of this year's Decorex! Have you been there? Did you find it interesting, perhaps even have a favourite that it's not here and that maybe I should know about?
